63758 !NOTES:Around 1982 Sonny Grant and I (Marty Grant) decided to climb the mountain behind Granny George's house (Della C. Wright Conley George, our great grandmother). This was in Topton, NC.
Sonny was about 15 and I was 14. Our 2nd cousin Russell Lequire, then aged 8 or 9 thought he'd go with us. We didn't think a little kid could climb the mountain but we couldn't talk him out of it. We got really close to the top before we all decided to turn back. We were worried about Russell, but he was as tough as we were. Probably tougher. We all got back unharmed. The next day Sonny and I tried again, but we still didn't make it to the top. Russell didn't go this time. He probably climbed it a dozen times after that, I'd imagine.;

63779 !NOTES:Auz Wright accidentally killed his uncle Aaron Alexander Wright in October 1907 (he died 21 Oct 1907, the day after being shot). Apparently Auz Wright was fighting with Arthur Postell, and went to hit Postell with his gun. It went off and shot A.A. Wright who just happened to be walking by on the rail road tracks. I don't know if Auz got into any legal trouble over this, but I know the family was pretty upset with him. In 1977 my Great Great Uncle Luther Crisp was interviewed by Alton Wright, and had this to say about Auz and his brother Emmett:
"That Emmet was a bad egg. I believe him and Auz was about two of the wickedest guys that ever raised up."

Topton was a pretty rough place in those days, alot like the old west, all the younger men (and some of the older ones) carried pistols and knives everywhere they went. One of my cousins told me how the Sheriff of Cherokee County said he wouldn't go to Topton in those days. (I don't know which Sheriff might have said that).

63780 !NOTES:Azariah is certainly a descendant of Macksfield Hensley (d 1801) of Caswell Co., NC, but his exact connection hasn't been discovered yet.

I suspect he might be a son of Macksfield (c1778) & Frances Jones of Caswell. They did have a son his age with them in 1810 and 1820. Macksfield (1778) is a grandson of the older Macksfield.;

!NOTES:There is another Azariah Hensley (c1812 NC) who lived and died in Jackson Co., TN. No known connection, but could be related.;
