!OBITUARY:
In Loving Memory of
Anthony “Mark” Richardson (“Crash”)
September 8, 1974 – October 19, 2025
________________________________________
Anthony Mark Richardson, affectionately known as “Crash,” passed away peacefully on October 19, 2025, surrounded by family who loved him dearly
Born on September 8, 1974, in Marion, South Carolina, Mark was the cherished son of the late Cecil Lavern Richardson of Britton’s Neck and Teresa Gail Campbell Richardson of Mullins. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents on both sides, who shaped his character and love for family.
________________________________________
A Life of Service and Dedication
Mark’s life was defined by service, adventure, and unwavering loyalty. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and later in the Army National Guard, where he served for 22 years, achieving the rank of Sergeant before earning an honorable discharge. Throughout his years of military service, he formed lifelong bonds with his brothers in arms and served proudly around the world.
After retiring from the National Guard, Mark carried forward a legacy of honor, bravery, and friendship.
For over 23 years, he was a dedicated employee at WestRock, where his humor, dependability, and generosity left a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike. He had a gift for making people feel valued, whether through a kind word, a check-in, or a helping hand.
________________________________________
A Life Well-Lived
Outside of work, Mark embraced life with joy and energy. He loved the thrill of riding his Jeep Ginger through the mud, exploring the trails, and cheering passionately for his beloved Clemson Tigers every fall. His compassion extended to animals—especially his loyal companion Tank—whose friendship brought him comfort and joy.
Mark’s greatest love was his wife, Tanya Edwards Richardson. The two first met in their early twenties in Marion, and though life’s path took them apart for a time, fate brought them back together. They rekindled their love and were married in 2016, sharing years filled with laughter, adventures, and deep companionship. Tanya was his partner, his peace, and the love of his life.
________________________________________
Those Who Cherish His Memory
Mark leaves behind his loving wife, Tanya Edwards Richardson; his mother, Teresa Gail Campbell Richardson; his sisters, Sherie Sawyer (Buddy) and Amy Hayes (Ed); four nephews, three nieces, and one great-niece.
He is also survived by beloved aunts, uncles, cousins, and many cherished friends who will forever carry his memory.
He was a man who embodied kindness, generosity, and joy. Mark would give freely of himself and often did so with a smile or a joke. To know Mark was to know someone who lived fully, loved deeply, and left every person he met feeling seen and cared for.
His nickname, “Crash,” reflected the larger-than-life personality that could light up a room—and the unforgettable presence he carried throughout his life.
________________________________________
A Legacy of Love
Though his time with us was far too short, Mark’s story will live on in the laughter, love, and loyalty he shared. His mission is complete, and his legacy remains strong, true, and deeply cherished.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” – 2 Timothy 4:7
At ease, soldier. Mission complete.

64691 !NOTES:Based on series of 1832 deeds, it is possible that Elisha Manning is a son-in-law of Richard Edwards. Elisha was in Copiah Co., MS by 1850 wife named Rebecca age 41 (c1808/09). Had sons Richard, David, etc.

It is also possible that Absalom Turbeville's wife Lucretia/Creasy/Theresa is a daughter of Richard Edwards. See 1838 deed from Turbeville to Richard Edwards (Jr), though nothing is said specifically about relationship.

Samuel Smith Jr also deeded by Richard ca 1832, might also be a son-in-law;
Family: Richard L Edwards / Elizabeth Owens (F4391)

64692 !NOTES:Based on some of the son's names, i.e. Archie and Samuel, I would suspect John R. to be a son of Archibald Cathey of SC and Burke Co., NC.

!NOTES:Birth place:
VA per son Joshua Cathey's 1880 census entry
VA or SC per son Daniel Cathey's 1880 census entry
GA or NC per dau Dolly's 1880 and 1900 census entries
TN per son Samuel's 1880 census entry
-- per son John's 1880 census entry
From the above we have only two that agree, and that is VA from the two oldest children to make it to 1880. I'm going with that;

64693 !NOTES:Based on the 1850 census entry, I first assumed that Joseph B. Sams was the husband of Mary Ann Sams and that Sarah 8/12 was their daughter. This might be accurate, but it's also possible they were siblings instead, which would mean Joseph is a child of Nehemiah same as Mary Ann. I don't know who Sarah 8/12 is in that case, perhaps Joseph's child by a wife who died in childbirth? Mary Ann married Nathaniel Penny in 1855. Joseph B. Sams was still alive as late as 1872;

64699 !NOTES:Benjamin J. Barnes was born ca 1826/27 in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know who his parents were, but I strongly suspect he is a son of Joel Barnes, but have no solid proof of that. Joel had a son this age (born ca 1825/30) with him in the 1840 census.

Benjamin Barnes married Jane --- ca 1847 in Marion Dist, SC. I don't know what her maiden name might be.

Benjamin Barnes was listed in the accounts for the Estate of James Deracken dated 20 Feb 1858. Joel Barnes was listed next after Benjamin. This means they owed money to the estate. No relationship is implied to the deceased. (Marion County Probate Records Volume I, # 1005 by Lucille Utley, Danny Smith, Indexed by Ferrell and Nancy Prosser, 1985).

Benjamin Barnes and family were still in Marion Dist, SC for the 1860 census. By this time his brother Lewis was no longer with him, but still living in Marion Dist, SC. For some reason, Jane, wife of Benjamin, was listed as "James" in this census.

64700 !NOTES:Benjamn Turner (1755/65-1821) of Williamsburg (now Florence) had a proven son Reuben Turner as named his 1821 Will. However, I think that was a slightly younger man than this one. That one was on the 1820 census in Williamsburg at the same time this one was in Marion. It's *possible* they are the same man, but I don't think so.;
