Her death certificate has her born 5 Jun 1867 in Tennessee, parents unknown, her last address 14530 ½ Delano Street and that she’d lived in county 44 years. Kay Blackner was the informant. This Amanda is buried at Glen Haven Cemetery. The above record fits pretty well for our Amanda, though I can’t say with any certainty that it’s our Amanda Grant Barnes. I’ve seen the marker for this Amanda (on Find a Grave) and it lists her as Amanda A. Barnes 1876-1963. It’s obviously the same person from the death certificate despite the marker having 1876 vs 1867 for the birth year. The cemetery is in Sylmar, Los Angeles Co., CA." | Grant, Amanda Avarilo (I4670)

| 64992 | !NOTES:D/C lists parents, birth place, etc. as "don't know" !NOTES:Theories: 1- NONE of the Strouds in our area had an unidentified son this age with them on the 1840 census with the exception of William Stroud (s/o Peter Jr). However, he has a proven son William, younger than this one. 2 - William M. could be a son of Priscilla Stroud (c1800-after 1850). He and she were living with Peter G. Stroud in 1850, so obviously related to one another, but how? 3 - William M. is a son of John Stroud and Rebecca Garrett (married 1832 in Burke). This helps with problem # 1 above, because John Stroud died ca 1840 and isn't listed on the 1840 census, nor is his widow Rebecca. This also works age wise as John & Rebecca married over a full year before William was born. However, it's only a theory at this point. I have zero solid evidence linking William to them.; !CENSUS:1840? !CENSUS:1850 Union Co., GA 85th District # 1096/1096 Peter Stroud 40 Farmer $700 NC [Can't read or write] Lucinda 35 NC Mary 12 GA [*] James 10 GA [*] Lavina 8 GA [*] Nancy 5 GA [*] Lucinda 2 GA William 17 Laborer NC [*] <--- Priscillia 50 NC [*] Attended School within census year (1849/1850); !MARRIAGE:17 Jun 1855 Madison Co, NC William STROUD & Mary A. I found a matching Polly A. Parton (c1836 NC) in 1850 Cherokee NC with parents William (c1805 VA) and Agnes (c1813 NC). The name, age and location fit for she is clearly in the part of Cherokee that borders Union GA judging by her neighbors notably William Russell (c1820) whose son Clark R. Russell would later married Thomas M. Henderson’s daughter in Union Co., GA. That certainly makes this a promising match. But is there actual proof that Mary Ann was a Parton? W. Sellers, Esq., of the Marion Bar. 1902. pp. 173-175 ... Old John Elvington lived on the road from Gaddy's Mills to Nichols ; he raised a large family, sons and daughters of the sons, Zadoc Elvington still survives, and lives near the old homestead; has no children; had two sons, whom he lost in the war. In some respects he is a prodigy, which will not be further alluded to. He has made and has money, which it is said he does not much enjoy, except the satisfaction of knowing that he has it. He married one of the ten daughters of the late John Goodyear (all of whom, it is said, were good women, and made industrious and frugal housewives). Old man John Elvington was a good citizen. His other sons were William, John (commonly called Jack), and Owen. They are all dead. Owen was the father of our excellent and thrifty good citizen, George W. Elvington ; there may have been another son or two, not now remembered. He had several daughters ; one the wife of the late Henry Huggins ; one the wife of the late James Scott (she still survives) ; one the wife of the late Eli Scott, and perhaps others. The old gentleman was remarkable m one respect; he told the writer, when he was over seventy years of age, that he never saw a seed-tick or a red-bug in his life ; spectacles did him no good, yet his eyesight had not failed him and he could see as well in his old age as he ever could; his eyes were very peculiar-did not look like the ordinary eye-they sparkled or twinkled. ; | Elvington (I1855)
