OR, he could be a son of James Nichols (bef 1775). He was the only Nichols in Burke in 1820 and next to a widow Patsy Mitchell. Mitchell is supposedly the maiden name of Alex's wife. James did have an apparent son Alex's age with him in 1820. Also, Alex named his 1st son James.
- Conclusion: James or Jonathan is Alex's father. The other is probably his uncle;
